Just wanna cuttle.

Went to IlluXcon last weekend and it sort of inspired me to get my ass in gear–as I hoped it would. It’ll be harder to update since I’m working full-time now, but at least I know what I need to do now, and I promise an influx of new sketches.

I like cephalopods, if that wasn’t obvious. I plan on doing a series of little collage paintings with the common theme of aquatic oddities; the one below is about 4″ x 5″. The copper-color is a metalic pigmint, the neat-factor of which really doesn’t come across on a monitor.

Graduated!

Ok, so I actually graduated a month ago at this point, but I’m just now starting to get things back to some semblance of order. Right now, I’m straddled between three households: my apartment in Ohio, the folks’ house in Maryland, and the house I’m moving into once the contractors are done with their thing. It’s been busy, to say the least. Right now, I’m just kicking back and basking in the post graduation glow–while I still have the time.  I hope to have a bit to put up once all my supplies and tools are under one roof.

WIP

wipSomeone asked to see what something looks like as I’m working on it, so, here we are. I’m trying to work back to front, sort of as you would a traditional painting.

Q

Q

Q

I wish this were self-explanitory. This is a class project from some months back; we were to pick a letter and then recived a list of words. I picked “Q” so I was to make an illustration that included Q-Bert, Quilt, Quince, Queen, and Quintuplet.

Something that I did a few months ago for class that just needed another hour or two of work. It probably still needs a little work–but I’m just tired of it hanging around my Work In Progress folder.

When the apocalypse comes about, you’ll wish you were this happy.

A special thanks to Matt Merchant for posing for me despite the technical difficulties.

Figure Drawing

Audrey

Audrey

Just something from my figure drawing class that I was pleased with. Colored pencils on toned paper.

Fanny Campbell

Fanny Campbell

Fanny Campbell

Something I’m still tweaking here and there. Fanny Campbell was a woman that disguised herself as a man, signed herself on as a sailor, staged a mutiny and became captain of a ship, then sailed down to Cuba to bust her man out of prison. After the prison break, she and her future husband become privateers (i.e. government sanctioned pirates) on the side of the Americans during the revolutionary war. You can get the longer version of her story here.

Cocktail Series: Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

Howdy. Still working on the site as a whole, but here’s a little somethin’ somthin’; I plan to make a series devoted to the beloved cocktail.

Mary I of England was half-sister to the considerably more amiable Elizabeth I. Mary earned her rather gruesome nickname after she had several hundred religious dissenters burned at the stake during her five-year reign.

How to make a Bloody Mary: 3 parts vodka, 6 parts tomato juice, 1 part lemon juice. Add dashes of Worcestershire Sauce, Tabasco , salt and pepper into highball glass, then pour all ingredients into highball with ice cubes. Stir gently. Garnish with celery, salt, lemon wedge and olives (optional).
